Rekindle is a social enterprise that is on a mission to create a culture of zero waste wood in New Zealand. This vision is being driven by Juliet Arnott, an occupational therapist, who has combined her artistic and sustainable values with a belief in the therapeutic benefits that result when people use their hands to create something from nothing. Urbis Design Day is an annual event where collaborative teams are given two weeks to come up with a way to showcase their creativity, before ticket-holders spend a Saturday doing a circuit of the venues and being wowed out by the results. I was hired to make a video to be shown at the wrap party for those involved, and as publicity for the next Design Day event.
Each year I somehow get roped into a 48hour film, this year with Dale Stevenson under the name ShotBrother. We co-wrote, directed, and edited the film, and I was DOP. 48hours is a competition where around 600 teams have literally two days to write, shoot, edit and deliver a short film using required elements you are given at the start of the weekend. This year we were given ‘Horror’ as our genre, and our film is titled “Lucky Last”. We also received a nomination for “Sexiest Looking Short” in the Auckland region.
A bunch of delicious smoothie recipe pictures taken for the New Zealand distributor of Good Green Stuff and Clean Lean Protein, healthy and great tasting nutritional support products. I know, because I drank them all afterwards! The pictures were used to go with recipe suggestions on the Nuzest website, and for placement on social media sites like Pinterest and Facebook. Over two weeks in January 2012 I shot and edited a video on each day of a promotional road trip from Cape Reinga to Stewart Island, involving MoreFM, Pascall, Top10 Holiday Parks and lots of local adventure activity companies. Each video was uploaded daily to YouTube & Facebook for the client, to keep fans up to date and involved as the trip progressed. This is a summary video I cut afterwards which describes the promotion as a whole. The fourteen daily videos can be found on the clients’ YouTube channel.
Art in The Dark is an annual after-dark event that happens in a park in Ponsonby, Auckland. Artists showcase their light-based installations in different areas of the park under and in the trees, while the public wanders about and enjoys the spectacle. I took my camera along to this one and cut a music clip out of it just for fun.
In February 2011 I produced this music video for Tiki Taane, with Jason Wetzel the Director of Photography. Tiki specifically wanted a film student to come up with the idea and direct this video, so Ian Brown was called on from the most recent group of graduates from the New Zealand Film Academy.
